You must have been under a rock, if you're blaming trump's neo-fascist regime, for the US's 80 years of imperialism and neo-colonialism, that the world has been subjected to.
Trump's the tip of the spear of US imperialism and the difference, is that he's dropped the facade of diplomacy and NGOs, that have cloaked the terrorist actions of previous regimes in Washington.
I'm well aware of US imperialism since WWII and before; however, Trump has intensified this mistaken policy, and has as you mentioned done it blatantly and without the facade of the previous US regimes.
It is wrong to assume that the USoA manipulated (which often suggest some level of brainwashing) the people of South America to vote for a criminal. If you pay attention to history, you will realise that because of the removal of any functional left movement from these countries, only the right-wing can organise. You will also realise that except Cuba, Haiti & Nicaragua, no other South American country has had a culture of resisting colonialism & imperialism in the past decades. This lack of cultural resistance is the main reason why these countries turn to their conquistador & fascist pasts (many of the elites are fascist). It is not a conspiracy of the USoA which only exploits the fertile ground these societies represent for racism & fascism. As long as these are not addressed, Latin America will remain a wretched place.
