Colombia's ex President Gustavo Petro accused USA and Israel of meddling in the election to put in power far-right leader Abelardo de la Espriella, a pro-Trump US citizen and ally of drug traffickers.

There is a long history of Israel training death squads and dictatorships in Colombia and across Latin America, especially the genocidal dictatorships in Guatemala that killed some 200,000, mostly Mayans. Israel supplied over 90% of the weapons that the dictator Somoza used to to slaughter 50,000 Nicaraguans. Israel also trained in torture techniques and supplied weapons to the Argentine dictatorships.
The trainer of the AUC paramilitary death squads and the Cartels in Colombia was Yair Klein, a former lieutenant colonel in the IDF paratroopers.
Klein trained Carlos Castaño, the infamously cruel mass murderer, a Colombian paramilitary leader and narcotrafficker responsible for countless atrocities and assassinations including the murder of the famous and beloved journalist and satirist, Jaime Garzón.
Castaño was an Evangelical and a fanatical supporter of Israel. He even claimed to have gone to Israel for training.

“The history of Israel is delightful and illuminating. You should start by taking a shekel in the hand, just like receiving Christ… I admire the Jews for their courage in the face of anti-Semitism, for their strategy in the Diaspora, for the resolve of their Zionism, their mysticism, religion and, above all, their nationalism.”
This support for Israel is common across Latin America among the right-wing evangelical sects that were promoted by the CIA, and among rightists in general.
